24Notion Goes Bicoastal

It was a busy week of panels, tweets, and excitement for 24Notion and CEO Ivo Lukas last week.  From the east coast to the west coast, 24Notion was making their presence known in the Sizzling Miami Tweet up in the beautiful Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami and the Girls in Tech Career Expo in the foggy city of San Francisco.

In Miami, 24Notion started the week off right as a sponsor of the hottest celebration of social gathering and social media.  And it was not only Miami residents that joined in the fun – the #SizzlingMiamiTweetUp went virtual with tweets, statuses, and posts from all over the nation.  Check out the conversation here.  Keep your eyes open for some of the influential leaders that flocked to the sunny city to support the night of tweet up:

And of course, make sure to check out @24Notion’s presence at the Tweet-Up along with @MsSonicFlare.  Overall, the night was a huge success with our little social media hearts beating fast.

As if that was not enough, 24notion’s trusted leader, Ivo Lukas, took a quick jump across our grand nation and ended up in San Francisco, as a feature for the Girls in Tech Panel Discussion on Landing the Perfect Job – and Keeping it.  The panel discussion included females who have longed proved that they know what they are doing in the career world.  Lukas and Girls in Tech were joined with leaders in Microsoft, Facebook and Anita Borg Institute.

The event hosted 350 eager attendees who gained ‘how tos’ on writing a resume, social networking, and maneuvering in the technology field sector.  The event also touched based on some common interview mishaps and inspired women of all ages that their qualities and skills can land them the perfect job with a few helpful tips.

Lukas was honored to be a part of such a crucial and influential panel discussion – proud that Girls in Tech are taking the steps needed to begin to close the gender gap that reigns in STEM careers.

In the end, 24Notion’s bicoastal adventures were a huge success — receiving lots of love from both coasts.  Check back soon to see what is thrown our way next.  One thing is for sure — it does not look like we are slowing down!

We hope you all had a happy and sunny fourth with lots of food, family, and fun.

As promised, here are some pictures of the amazing Women of OSCON. The luncheon was a great union of O’Reilly and Girls in Tech, in gathering the women of OSCON and promoting a sense of community among all females in technology. Girls in Tech felt so welcomed by the OSCON women that came to the luncheon and look forward to keeping in touch! Thanks for all of your great insight and please remember to check out Ivo’s interview at OSCON:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W85zMSek_Uk

Celebration of NCWIT Symons Innovator Award

This year 24notion and Girls in Tech Portland is the partner/co-sponsor of National Center for Women & Information Technology. NCWIT believe that inspiring more women to choose careers in IT isn’t about parity; it’s a compelling issue of innovation, competitiveness, and workforce sustainability. In a global economy, gender diversity in IT means a larger and more competitive workforce; in a world dependent on innovation, it means the ability to design technology that is as broad and creative as the people it serves.

The NCWIT Symons Innovator Award promotes women’s participation in information technology and entrepreneurship by honoring an outstanding woman who has successfully built and funded an IT business. By recognizing women IT entrepreneurs, the NCWIT Symons Innovator Award hopes to inspire others to pursue IT entrepreneurship, and increase awareness about the importance of women’s participation in IT innovation and business. This year, we are please to announced the 2010 NCWIT Symons Innovator Award Winner is Kim Polese, CEO of SpikeSource, Co-founder of Marimba, and the original product manager of Java at Sun Microsystems.

Be sure to join us for the 2010 NCWIT Innovator Award celebration, 6:30-8:30PM, Thursday, May 20, at the OHSU South Waterfront Atrium in Portland, Oregon. Many thanks to our local host, the Software Association of Oregon, guests will enjoy fine cocktails and decadent treats, the lovely musical styling of local vocalist Sarah Billings, and the opportunity to ride Portland’s famous Aerial Tram to experience a breathtaking view of the city at night. We invite you to purchase tickets early as space is limited at this venue.

KEY FACTS:

  • Girls represented just 17 percent of Advanced Placement computer science (CS) exam-takers in 2008; that’s the lowest female representation of any AP exam.
  • In 2008 women earned only 18 percent of all CS degrees. Back in 1985, women earned 37 percent of CS degrees.
  • Women hold more than half of all professional occupations in the U.S. but fewer than 24 percent of all computing-related occupations.
  • Only 16 percent of Fortune 500 technology companies have women corporate officers.
  • A study on U.S. technology patenting reveals that patents created by mixed-gender teams are the most highly cited (an indicator of their innovation and usefulness); yet women were involved in only 9 percent of U.S. tech patents.
